The Isle of Wight coastal path is a scenic and varied 70-mile route around the island. From West Cowes, you can head West along esplanade through Gurnard and on to the remote Thorness Bay where you're forced inland through Newton Harbour Nature Reserve. Heading East is not recommended (unless you're doing the full route) as you are mostly restricted to roads as far as Fishbourne.
